This is the fruit of Tuesday's course. More horses! Can you find them? Celebrating our youngest birthday today. Time flies! She's 22 and has been a great blessing to us. Today is also the Lord's Day-off to Church.

For those who have been there, this is a painting done at Arrowhead looking down the pathway from the beach parking lot to Roe campground. A beautiful fall day in September.
Today our world here is pristine, white. The soft fluffy snow covering everything. There are little hats of snow on everything. The dead flowers in the garden, especially are a thing of beauty! Wonder whether it can be captured from the comfort of the livingroom window?

This was my response to our last class when the instructor told us we were going to have a third week of fruit and the carousel horse! He had told us a story about going to church as a child and he felt like grabbing a church pillar to resist the pull.
He told us to look up Chagall. So this was the response. Kinda' fun and funny! Maybe that's why Chagall did his paintings.

Have tried to play around a bit with fabric and folds. It's challenging and interesting, the play of light on fabric. This was Oma Torenvliet's glass vase which I remember she would have on the glass tray of the tea wagon. In the spring she would have it full of lily-of-the-valley her favorite scent. Her sister in Holland has a similar vase.

This was the subject we were given to paint yesterdaywith a bowl fruit in the front. The instructor wanted more from us in abstract painting than I think most of us old fogies were willing to give. Felt like I was holding on for dear life to my conservative painting approach! Still working on my fruit. He told me it was as if the train stopped when I started on the fruit! Cest la vie!

Today some apples that I tried on Saturday. Will be working on fruit at the DVSA course this afternoon. Will show the results tomorrow.

Just a little painting done on the weekend. The Tuesday course is motivating me to do some studies of fruit. Stuck a twig of forsythia in the picture for interest! Nice and bright since it is dark and snowy here this afternoon.

On this day, the Lord's Day, is a painting of the valley between two drumlins in West Flamborough. The most spectacular views of rolling hills and farm country! T'was a real privilege to be able to set up an easel and paint here. First day the farmer didn't want us to go past the trees because there were a bunch of wild turkeys nesting there. "For the beauty!"

Her e are the Forsythia again with a revised background. Our youngest dausghter, Rebecca thought the whole thing was too pink! The violet is great contrast for the beautiful yellow of the Forsythia but yah-some aren't into that much pink. You should see the Forsythia now. It is in full bloom and staring to sprout leaves. I know us poor Northeners get excited at this time of year by very little in the way of colour! Just think how much we appreciate the little things when they first come-Hellebores, snowdrops, and the first sight of a crocus. The plywood is thanks to son-in-law James.

Am so looking forward to Spring! What a blessing that we painters can create a little summer or spring on a canvas! This was late Spring in the Dundas Valley. Enjoy!

have done a number of paintings on old pieces of wood. This is a small example of reeds along a pond.

This picture was painted from the lane way behind our barn. The Queen Anne's lace kept calling out to me "paint me". They say you can do many pictures of one subject. This was one that was limitless! Took the paints out after supper and caught the long shadows as the sun was setting.

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

The Queen Anne's lace was pretty stunning last summer! What an artist would like to get across with her painting is the mood that he or she happened on at that location. Hope this was successful!

Monday, February 15, 2010

Forced some Forsythia into bloom and "wow!" Sure are inspiring. Working on this one still-post the final results sometime later. Family day today!

Sunday, February 14, 2010

Today is Sunday-home from church and it's lovely and quiet here. Makes me think of the place this was painted. Way up North-Red Lake is the the name of the lake and place. There are no roads north of here in Ontario. A lot of peace and quiet on the side of the lake that we were on. The only noise was the sound of the float planes coming in onto the lake. The sight at night of the Aurora Borealis was fantastic!

A little painting done at the first class last spring. Got there late because I couldn't find the location. There was this hedge of bushes in full bloom-maybe serviceberry? Always dislike a first class because it's so hard to relax and just think about painting!

Friday, February 12, 2010

This is a painting done from the last two week's still life. Even though the birds of paradise flowers are stunning and exotic and the fruit lucious-could not get in to it. Good exercise anyway.

Painted this tree from our kitchen window, yesterday, while it was snowing. Haven't had this much snow on it yet this winter! The right side of the sugar maple seems to be dying and every year it becomes more gnarled. The woodpeckers have been at the holes in the right branch. In the fall it had beautiful golden leaves-but before it could be painted, we had a big windstorm. Finally caught it clothed in snow.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

On this snowy, winter day it's nice to remember roses in summer as seen from the pool yard. Alas, this rose is just a memory because of a harsh winter several years ago.

Today is a painting afternoon and this is a piece which was started there with a beautiful still life of lilies. Has been reworked a number of times. Will see what he says about it today. Compare it to the post of the same painting a while back.(Feb. 25) The art instuctor said it still looked like the vase was painted by a different person than the rest. Back to the drawing board! Can you see the difference now-hope this is an improvement!

A little study today of a few white mums in a small glass vase.

Sunday, February 7, 2010

It's the Lord's Day today and after church we visited our grandson for his birthday and drove past the beautiful farm where this was painted last spring. Looked a little different today in the winter sun.

Saturday, February 6, 2010

It's a bit early in the season in this part of the world to anticipate these little harbingers of Spring. Last week when it was mild, I did see the buds in the hellebores. Will have to check the snowdrops soon!

Friday, February 5, 2010

This sunflower grew from birdseed in the rocks around the pool. This was a huge flower head, more beautiful this way than in bloom! "For the beauty"

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Two paintings done the same afternoon in May. The one early afternoon and theother much later. Which is which? Shaver Hill in West Flamborough and a very old barn and sheds.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Today, something non flowery! This was done in Spring last year, late afternoon. You can see the evening shadows on the right.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

A real burst of Spring! Bought the potted bulbs and set them under the skylight in the kitchen. They soon opened up wide to the light and displayed their vivid beauty, appearing to give thanks to the Creator! So Joyous!

Monday, February 1, 2010

These are two paintings done for two grandaughter's birthdays(sisters) who share a bedroom. They were supposed to have lots of pink!
