Here's a small painting of an iris. It goes together with the beautiful sunshine we've been enjoying here.

Not having much time to paint when time is filled with little people! Here is a piece of barnboard painted last year when the garden was full of lovely poppies and the rudbeckia was just starting it's annual show.

Monday, March 29, 2010

This is a larger version of an earlier tulip that I painted. Have been trying to work with it to improve the impact. Might have to leave it for a while and reconsider.

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Just before dusk in or on the drumlins of West Flamborough. This was done last spring in a class that got together for lo-lite painting. The last ten minutes were probably the most impressive-so this was my impression! Have a blessed Sunday!

Was asked to paint something on a wooden pencil box for a nephew. Painted these scenes all around the box from pictures taken at a maple syrup operation.

Friday, March 26, 2010

Another tulip done on a piece of plywood-running out of small canvasses. The paint doesn't flow as smoothly on the wood. There won't be much painting in the next week with two little grandkids underfoot-They are a work of art to enjoy!

This is the largest canvas I've ever worked on. 30"X36". It sure has a presence in this size. It's a challenge but an enjoyable one! Colours here aren't quite the same as the original.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

A very small painting done on a little canvas board, quickly.
This tulip has the colouring of being on fire. Fun to play with! This is small enough to mail in an envelope.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Looking down on a bunch of purple and white tulips! Is Spring here yet? I saw one crocus.

Monday, March 22, 2010

A bevy of orange beauties, to light up a dreary day!

Saturday, March 20, 2010

This is my third attempt at the same tulip! Think this one turned out the best! Will have to be Sunday's post. A greeting for the Lord's Day.

A beautiful pink tulip but does need some refining.

Friday, March 19, 2010

These tulips seem to light up the page.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

This little tulip is for Thursday. Won't have much time to sit at the desk or paint! Am having fun with the different kinds and colours. Sooo many different shapes.

Have started on the tulip series. It seems appropriate with all the beautiful weather this spring break. It's hard to get the colours right on these photograhs but here's the first one anyway.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Poppies from our garden last summer. They came in all sorts of shapes and forms. Single and double and then some were shaggy like this one. Every stage was a vision of beauty! First the shaggy leaves, then the buds and then the flowers. The seed pods were also quite a work of art. Hopefully, next summer will bring us more.

A small painting of the innards of a tulip. Would like to try a series of tulip paintings.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Today is Sunday and, boy, have we had a lot of rain. On the way to church, this morning, had to drive througha creek overflowing the road. Have never seen this much flooding here!
This was a painting dug out of the storage cupboard. An effort to copy an impressionist artist's winter painting. Can't remember who but when I find it , will give him the credit. The colours don't copy very well.

Saturday, March 13, 2010

All of us here in Southern Ontario are pining for spring and the weather this past week has fooled us into thinking it's here! Picked a few snowdrops and put them in my mother's glass vase-then went out and bought a bunch of tulips.

Friday, March 12, 2010

This is an interesting painting , found in the old painting cupboard, which had a lot of blues that look almost florescent. It was done during an outdoor painting class oat one of Hamilton's many waterfalls.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Just a quick sketch done Tuesday after I wasn't sure what to do with the larger picture anymore. The white lilies are sooo beautiful! Ended the class feeling confident with lilies. This one , I think has too much of two's.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Had a great time painting yesterday! A beautiful still life set up for us, of lilies-white, pink and orange and watermelon, on a chair. The end of ten weeks with a curmudgeon teacher-who knows a lot, is sparing of complements and big on criticism! To be honest, most of the criticisms have been right on. Hopefully, have listened and will move forward.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Had a great afternoon painting and a wonderful Bibile study this morning. How appropriate that we again had a beautiful lily still life and watermelons on a chair. Will show later. This is one of last spring's tulips. What a fantastic flower.

Heard that I hold my paintbrush like an old lady(I am) and dab like a tea drinking nanny! Thought that might amuse some.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Another painting done on an old board. This time on barnboard. The challenge is how much wooden background to leave that it will complement the painting. Might have used too much sky colour in this one.

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Another painting on an old piece of pine from a century old home. Crabapples along the neighbours's driveway were the subject of this painting. Often the barn board is so beautiful that it seems to paint itself!

Saturday, March 6, 2010

This one was painted on the beach at Arrowhead Lake. Yes, the colours can really be this intense. This painting is belongs to a family member. Have to study snow-we saw lots of it today. The soft colours of the shadows and the sun on the wide fields in and around Owen Sound are a vision of beauty. Thank the Lord.

Friday, March 5, 2010

Saw a picture of Snowdrops in our area in the paper today. Should check ours-unfortunately we don't have a window that looks out on them! Have to wait for the tulips for that. Here, instead, is some more coreopsis.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Just registered for an outdoor plein air course. This is the kind of stuff that gets me" into the zone" as the instructor said we have to be. Beautiful rolling hills and spring evenings-so lovely-can't wait!

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

This was done last summer at Inverlochy-close to Parry Sound. There was a wealth of paintable material! Worked on it a bit last week and really enjoyed reliving the experience of painting at this beautiful spot.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

T'was a busy day today! Bible Study this morning and paint course this afternoon. Tell you about that another day. This is the zebra grass an hour later after the wind got at the snow. Like this one better!

Monday, March 1, 2010

Saturday I could see the Zebra grass outside the bay window, while the snow was falling in huge flakes. For a short while, the grass and everything else had a wonderful coating of snow-didn't know what to try to paint first. The old hydrangea blossoms with their mobcaps or the coneflowers scraping the window so ended up trying to paint this wonderful grass. So much shape and colour, especially in it's dry, winter state.
