A pathway at Arrowhead Park. Roads and paths are so interesting to paint. They are also subjects for so much musing in literature. My mother used to quote a dutch poem about "Golden Portals" "Als gouden de portaalen zijn, hoe zullen dan die zaalen zijn" whenever she saw the beautiful fall colours.

Love painting on old wood. This is an old cutting board-done years ago when Lisha and James married from a pattern in a Dorothy Dent landscape book. Kind of dreamy!

This painting was done on a piece of old pine board(beautiful patina) one spring at Dundas Valley. There is a little creek running under the road and you could look up and see this field covered in daisies. So many hidden corners with so much beauty!

This was a painting that I have been working on in a class on Tuesday afternoons. It's has been fun! Next class colour value will be discussed. Not everything can be front and centre and not all the colours should be loud. Will have to take that to heart! I fiddled with this painting on Saturday and hopefully got the jug looking more rounded and the colour values improved. Will have to ask about the space on the left.

This is another painting done in East River at Arrowhead Provincial Park. Those birches keep beckoning to be painted when we are up there. What a wonderful time of year-early fall-cool enough to walk, paint or do whatever!

This painting was on an old piece of pine from Hilary and Jelle's house which is more than 100 years old. It was removed when they put in a patio door and is an attempt to portray that particular Ontario cottage with the crabapple in front of it.

Stargazer lilies done on a wintry afternoon. Great subject for inspiration

Flowers for a dreary day.

This is a set of four paintings that Lisha hung up on a wall in her house. The top two are of the cone flowers with the lovely floppy petals. The bottom left is, of course, a sun flower. The right bottom is cosmos which also looks so pretty in a vase. Can't wait til spring! Two is a diptych, but what is four?

Missed Wednesday's painting so an extra one today.

This was a quick painting on a piece of plywood of a bouquet my daughter-in-law Diana had picked. It was gorgeous and it's hard to do it justice.

This was painted on site in the fall overlooking the beautiful Dundas valley. Corn is so interesting to paint. This was also a birthday gift to my daughter. It is wonderful to be able to share paintings with your children. That way they get out of the basement.

This is a painting done on sight after the men were finished haying! Beautiful sky and intriguing subject.T'was a birthday gift for Lisha.

Oh,oh, it's almost midnight and forgot to post a new painting for today. Here are more poppies. This is a framed painting. Was a lot of fun to do-poppies have so much character. These come up from seed and from year to year you never know what to expect!

A small painting of a poppy on a scrap piece of plywood. I recycle from the carpenter's burn pile! Poppies are wondrously beautiful when they grace the garden and are so fleeting! The buds show such grace as they become erect to bloom.

These coneflowers were blowing in the wind so much that it was hard to paint as I was looking at them them through the bay window. They have such wonderful soft floppy petals that move with the wind. They become so very tall, they stick out above all the other plants.-not sure what they are called.

This pear was basking in the reflectionof the pears beside it. My warm up piece.

Here you are , my first attempt at pastels and realism-enjoyed it but not really my thing. It is very messy-or am I just messy! Colours are very luminous. It is unframed and sprayed with Krylon which changed the colours somewhat.

Had lots of fun on Tuesday painting lilies and pears. Hadn't had lunch so I coveted the pears. Can you tell? Oh, the beauty of lilies!

"Each little flower that opens" Sometimes beauty is painful in the wake of tragedy in this world. Pray for the people of Haiti.

Here's another one from Arrowhead. This was done at the height of the colours-Wow! Had a wonderful afternoon painting at the DVSA in Dundas, yesterday. The still life was an arrangement of lilies. Will publish the results at a later date.

Another flower today. Yes, my photography really has to improve. In August we see these beauties everywhere. They are hardy and add wonderful colour to the garden.

Even, though broken-this world has so much beauty!

There are places we associate with good memories and bad memories but Arrowhead Park is a place of mostly good ones. How many times over the years haven't we sat on the beach and looked out on this scene even though it has been ever changing. Wouldn't you love to see it right now-with snow and ice on cross country skis doing the East River trail-that's the easy one!

Today is Sunday, the Lord's Day and bright and cold outside. This time of year makes me desperate for the beauty of flowers!

My First Blog

Finally, the time has come and we have a blog. It is wonderful to be an artist and to be able to express my amazement at the beauties of Creation but do have a need to show others the results of my journey with the Lord, using paint and a paint brush. Everywhere one looks in this world we see the delicate touches of His Creative Grandeur but the challenge is to tell this story to others that are willing to look and listen.
We will start with some work that was done this past summer and I hope that the flowers, the trees, clouds and sky all join to shout His name -at least that is the message I pray to have the privilege to bring to those that are interested in visiting my blog!
These purple coneflowers were painted on a summer day in August. They looked like they were doing a little dance in the wonder and joy of their maker with the sunlight playing among the leaves. Such pleasure right in our back yard!
