Hydrangeas

Was asked to paint some hydrangeas on a 16"X16" canvas. The stems keep falling over because the flowers are so big and the moisture from the rains. Still some finishing to do on this one.

Cool Water

It was a very hot day and we were on the Mattawa River with a canoe pulling two children on a wind surfer board and we found this little waterfall behind the bushes and cold water streaming out into the river. A wonderfully cool haven to play for an afternoon with sand and running water and a chance for a refreshing dip or put your feet in the ice cold water.

Canoeing on the Spanish

This paddle was painted to commemorate a canoe trip my husband took in the fall a few years ago, with some friends.

On Top of the Ridge

I tried to imagine that this was from the top of a granite ridge in Algonquin or the La Cloche mountains near Georgian Bay.

Weathered Pine

A little northern scene with granite and a lone pine bending to the wind.

Mattawa Paddle

Last year I painted up a few mini paddles for a show. Used scenes from photographs of holidays. So, since it's that time of year it 's seems appropriate to show a sample on the blog . This one is from a photograph of the Mattawa river. Scenery there is breathtaking!

Between the Rock and the Companula

It's a beautiful Sunday. Praise the Lord! See the works of His hand in the companula, coreopsis and all other wonders of His Creation on this beautiful Lord's Day in July.

Two Poppies

More poppies. It's hard to know which ones to paint first but if you procrastinate there may only be petals left on the ground.

Poppy on Barnboard

Yesterday's poppy on a piece of barnboard. It was painted on the rough side. It quite interesting how the rough board picks up the paint from the brush-have to be a little heavier with the paint and the contrasts in colour. T'was fun!

Poppy Along the Walk

Poppies coming up all over. This one appeared beside the walk to the back door. It was actually quite nice from the other side but meant I would have to paint in the sun. Find it's too hot to be able handle that. This one is nice for a piece of barnboard. May try that next.

This red poppy is one that was knocked over with the hose while watering the planters. It was quite lovely! Aaah!

Open Poppy

Pink Poppy

A little poppy with a bud, ready to pop out it's flower-what colour will it be? When I finished painting, I had to water the garden and pulled the whole poppy plant over with the hose! So Sad. Oh well, there are more coming!

Poppies and Petunias

Am trying my hand at poppies again, now that they are blooming in various colours and forms! They serendipitously appear throughout the borders, reseeded from a package from last year. Love their curly stems and floppy petals, shapes of the seed heads and then pods.

Lilies in Bouquet

I picked a large bouquet and attempted to immortalize it in paint while the flowers were still fresh. Just love this vase which I picked up at "Goodwill". Like a huge brandy glass.

Evening Shadows on the Lane

The barn from a different angle on a different evening. The summer evenings so far have been just wonderful! Lot's of opportunity for admiring the affect of light at different times of the day. Right now it's too hot to appreciate it mid day but perfect for evening when the temperatures have dropped a bit.

Hay Knife

Every farmer with hay is cutting and baling! This tool was used to saw (cut) chunks of har(I think) It's called a hay knife. I painted, what I thought was, an appropriate scene on it a few years ago. It is an interesting tool, with a beautiful handle and the blade still feels fairly sharp.

Evening Light and Day Lilies

have been painting for a couple of hours after supper. This is my impression of the light on the barn as the sun was setting. I was sitting beside a row of day lilies that were giving a glorious show.

"Dundas Canal-Evening"

As the sun was setting the light on the water and surrounding shrubbery was really splendid! Had to ignore the noise of the traffic behind us.

Then,we were startled by a family of geese who were heading to the water and we were sitting right where they would enter it. Well, that didn't stop them. People coming down the path from the other way scared them and sent them scrambling right over my palette into the water. One goose even had the nerve to leave a present on the lid of the paint box-no the green paint is not mixed with goose leavings!

"Lone Pine'

This lonely old pine had the sun shining right through it, as it was setting, the other evening. There was so much subjest matter to paint on this old farm but the pine kept calling!

This is a section of the canal going into Dundas, looking towards Coote's paradise. A lovely little gem of a spot but very noisy when we were there from the traffic on the road behind us! Looks like it's a favorite for fishermen and canoeists.
